Are Himalayan Salt Lamps Toxic to Pets?
What’s your thought on it? Salt Lamp may be toxic to your pet if your pet just keeps on licking your salt lamp. Other than that I don’t see a reason to worry about salt lamps poisoning your pets.
Salt Lamps contain Sodium and Potassium in excess which may create an imbalance in your pet physiology. Vomiting, fainting, seizures are some of the symptoms.
Here are some of my points why salt lamps are not Toxic to your pet.
Why salt lamps are not dangerous to your pet:
Your pet is a wild animal and he knows what is good for him and what is not.
Your pet not going to lick the salt lamp for long. Pets like dogs and cats are curious animals and they do like to explore new things. That doesn’t mean that they will what is bad for them.
Pets like cats and dogs have strong sense organs and they do avoid things could harm them.
Are Himalayan Salt Lamps Toxic to Pets?
Yes, Himalayan Salt Lamps are toxic to pets if your pets keep on licking the salt lamp. Generally one lick or two licks of a pet not going to harm them at all.
But, prevention is better than cure. Keep your Himalayan Salt Lamp out of reach of pets. That’s will be only advice from my side.
Please do comment your thoughts.
Would the salt lamps help my dog with sundowners syndrome?
As long as your cats and or dogs don’t LICK the salt lamp, they should be fine. In fact, the negative ions ( probably NOT produced by orgonite ) will benefit them.
No, we don’t even talk about Bill.
My cat is so finicky, she won’t explore my salt lamp and I have it on a small table in my bedroom that she can’t get on. Will this be ok for her, I also have a small Yorkie that doesn’t even know it’s here.
My salt lamp caused my dog to have seizures she never licked it just from it going into the air I had to remove it from my home..
That is so nuts to think but I have wondered the same thing. We got two new lamps at Christmas and shortly after the first of the year my dog had major seizures. I have not had them on since because I was looking at anything new to her environment. How are you sure it was the salt lamps that caused this?
Yes, my dog got sick too just from whatever it emits into the air. She vomited more than once, very lethargic, loss of appetite, sleeping a lot, low energy & no interest in going for walk or playing. She’s a 6 1/2 lb toy poodle. I turned lamp off & moved away from her environment. I hope she does better tomorrow. 😢
OMG! I have a salt lamp and my sweet baby girl named Zenzi just started having seizures! No idea why. She is three and has been healthy as can be up til this past Thursday when this all happened. I wonder if there is a connection! I never thought about that until i saw an article about a cat that got sick from one! I wish there was a way to know for sure!! but i might remove it just to be safe! Have you heard anything else about connections between these salt lamps and seizures in dogs? Mine is up so she wouldn’t be licking it but i wonder whatever goes into the air does anything?!?!?
I have a Himalayan salt lamp which I haven’t had for very long and my dog started having seizures. Now I’m wondering if it has to do with the salt lamp. I’m wondering if there is a real connection with dogs having seizures and these lamps. It’s in the same room where he spends most of his time and I barely put it on. I think I’m getting rid of it. He just turned three years old and has a no health problems at all.
That is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard that dogs and cats stay away from what is bad for them. How many stories are out there about dogs licking freon and dying? And there are a number of stories about dogs and cats licking these lamps and becoming deathly ill. Pets ARE NOT wild animals. They are domesticated animals and a lot of their natural instincts have greatly diminished!
